On Tuesday, Congressman Lamar Smith R-Texas, issued a subpoena to FBI Director James Comey for documents and other information pertaining to Clinton’s private email server’s security when she was secretary of state.
Smith, who serves as the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology chairman, requested the info in a letter on Sept. 9 but Comey did not comply, according to the Washington Examiner.
The representative is working alongside Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, on the investigation to analyze how secure classified email correspondence was in the executive branch and if changes are needed to the Federal Information Security Modernization Act of 2014, the Examiner reported.
“The committee is convinced that former Secretary Clinton’s unusual server and network arrangement necessitates amendments to the Federal Information Security Modernization Act of 2014 (FISMA),” a committee statement read.
“The committee continues to have questions about the structure and security of the email system used by former Secretary Clinton and whether she and her staff employed cybersecurity standards required by FISMA.”
In the previous letter Smith said the FBI didn’t release enough information from its investigation to answer all the questions he had and he was concerned because the bureau didn’t get a hold of the devices Clinton used to access her emails.
“This admission not only raises questions about the breadth of the review the FBI was able to undertake, but also whether Clinton aides attempted to destroy evidence to avoid answering questions about her private email and server arrangement in the event her unique arrangement was exposed,” he wrote.
