Jason Chaffetz has a simply message for the White House leakers.
We will find you, and we will put you behind bars.
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz blasted several government agencies Monday for not having necessary safeguards in place to prevent leaks.
The Utah Republican warned of the thousands of government contractors with security clearances that he believes have the ability to leak classified information. He pointed to the arrest Monday of a 25-year-old contractor charged with leaking classified information regarding Russia’s attempts to hack the 2016 election as evidence that government agencies are not doing enough to protect against leakers.
“They have hundreds of thousands of people that have security clearances that can do simply that,” Chaffetz told Fox News. “There are supposed to be safeguards in there and when we talk to the State Department and we talk to the talk to the Department of Justice, talk to the NSA, they assure you that they have all of these safeguards.”
“How many times do we have to see this story happen? They obviously don’t,” Chaffetz added.
Chaffetz furthered a call to go after those who leak sensitive information just because they “think it would be a good idea.”
“I don’t care if you’re Republican or Democrat, I don’t care what administration,” Chaffetz said. “When you have classified information, you cannot put that out there just because you think it would be a good idea. I want people in handcuffs, and I want to see people behind bars.”
