As its title suggests, The Shipman Files tells the sinister story of how a doctor, who had the trust of his patients, killed approximately 250 people.
Shipman’s case has long been studied since his deed came to light but just how did the Harold Shipman kill his victims and how was the so-called ‘Angel of Death’ able to kill so many people?
HOW DID HAROLD SHIPMAN KILL HIS VICTIMS?
Harold Shipman gave his patients lethal injections of diamorphine.
Despite his estimated number of victims totalling over 200 people according to BBC News, Harold Shipman was found guilty of murdering 15 women between 1995 and 1998.
Shipman’s victims had all been given lethal doses of diamorphine, which is another name given to heroin.
Diamorphine is an opioid and is often used as a painkiller but if used in large enough doses, as Shipman proved multiple times, can be fatal.
HOW DID HAROLD SHIPMAN HIMSELF DIE?
While Harold Shipman’s victims died from lethal doses of diamorphine, the disgraced doctor ended up taking his own life.
On January 13th, 2004, on the eve of his 58th birthday, Shipman was found dead in his cell at Wakefield Prison after hanging himself.
