For some reason, we don’t think this will work out.
Ukraine is calling for peace talks with Russia. But first, Russia must face prosecution for war crimes at an international court.
In the last few weeks there’s been increasing public talk of achieving peace through direct negotiations coming out of both Ukrainian and Russian officials. But for now, each side is sticking to their respective strict demands, making the possibility of serious talks coming to fruition anytime soon highly unlikely. Yet it’s at least a positive that the word “negotiations” is even in the air at this point.
The latest back-and-forth began with a Monday statement by Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba, who called for a peace summit to be held by the end of February with the mediation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres. However, his key sticking point, which proved to be a non-starter for Moscow, was that Russian officials first face a “war crimes court” for the invasion of Ukraine.
“Every war ends in a diplomatic way,” Kuleba said. “Every war ends as a result of the actions taken on the battlefield and at the negotiating table.” He added while talking about a UN venue, “This is really about bringing everyone on board.”
Ukraine’s offer is not going to work. Russia certainly won’t agree to it. The Russians will likely argue back that Russian-speaking people in the Eastern part of Ukraine have been under attack by the Azov Battalion for years before the conflict with Russia claims is one reason for their invasion in the first place.
The other reason Russia claims for its invasion is that Ukraine was working on joining NATO. Russia was not agreeable with Ukraine as part of NATO and wants the smaller nation to remain out of NATO.
For years Ukraine has been a very poor country that Americans like the Bidens have abused and extorted for personal gain. These corrupt politicians aren’t wanting to give this up either.
How much money have the Bidens taken from Ukraine? How much have they taken from Ukraine in 2022? The Bidens and other corrupt politicians aren’t likely to easily hand over their money-making entity between Europe and Russia.
Maybe this is why the US-led Ukraine is asking Russia to go in front of an international court where they’ll surely receive no mercy for their actions. The Bidens know Russia will never accept this.
