A lawyer just registered as a foreign agent for work he conducted eight years ago for Ukrainian energy firm Burisma, when Hunter Biden was on the board.
The disclosure raises questions about whether Hunter Biden could face FARA charges in the future that could complicate his father President Joe Biden’s re-election run.
The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) requires law firms and lobbyists to disclose work representing the interests of foreign clients.
Attorney John Buretta said he worked on behalf of former Burisma head Mykola Zlochevsky in 2016, during the time the CEO was under investigation by Ukraine and also the U.S. for corruption.
Buretta decided to file a FARA disclosure eight years later following ‘discussions’ with the Department of Justice, according to a spokesperson for his law firm Cravath, Swaine, & Moore.
The news isn’t great for Hunter, who has been accused by Republicans of violating FARA along with money laundering, racketeering, wire fraud and other crimes. He is also currently facing gun and tax crime charges filed by DOJ prosecutor David Weiss and his investigation remains open.
Hunter and Zlochevsky’s relationship has been detailed in an internal FBI document claiming Joe and his son were part of a $10 million bribery scheme with the CEO.
According to the documents filed by Buretta’s firm, he was retained in January 2016 to represent Mykola Zlochevsky ‘in connection with possible investigations by governmental authorities in the United States.’
It went on to say that Buretta met with three U.S. government officials in March 2016 and sent a letter to the officials in September.
‘In these interactions, Mr. Buretta identified his clients and presented facts relevant to potential U.S. and Ukrainian investigations, including information from a UK proceeding involving his clients,’ the filing states.
According to the conversation between a confidential source and Burisma CFO Vadim Pojarski in 2015, Hunter Biden was hired onto the company’s board to ‘protect us, through his dad, from all kinds of problems.’

Hunter Biden praised his lawyer and so-called “sugar brother” Kevin Morris for lending him big bucks as legal battles mount against the president’s son.
During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Hunter Biden said, “I don’t know where I would be if not for Kevin… And I don’t mean just because he has loaned me money to survive this onslaught; I mean, he has given me back my dignity. He’s been a brother to me.”
According to reports, Hunter Biden faces nearly $10 million in court fees. Morris reportedly loaned President Joe Biden’s son a total of $4.9 million for housing, car payments, and legal fees. Morris also paid for his IRS debts.
Morris recently became a big name in House Republican’s impeachment inquiry toward the Biden family.
The lawyer controls Hunter Biden’s ten percent stake in a Chinese state-backed fund, BHR Partners— which is closely linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
In 2013, Hunter Biden formed the BHR Partners with Devon Archer and Jonathan Li. The president’s son created the joint venture in which his company, Skaneateles LLC, held a ten percent equity stake in BHR Partners.

Congress is back in session and taking care of some very important old business, namely, Hunter Biden blowing off their subpoenas requiring him to testify in closed session in December before the House Oversight Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. You may recall when he did that last month, acting as though he was somehow the aggrieved party. He also did it with the help of Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), which raises other questions about his behavior.
The House Oversight Committee and the House Judiciary Committee both announced on Friday that they would begin the markup for resolutions against Hunter Biden for contempt for his failure to appear.

They also noted how he had the temerity to show up at the Capitol, give them a figurative finger, and then just left without testifying as he was supposed to last month.
