Just a few days ago, it was revealed that NYC Mayor Eric Adams is planning to give illegal border crossers debit cards worth up to $10,000.
Now the city council is saying, not so fast. They want an investigation into the plan, particularly the no-bid bank deal that is the foundation of the measure.
People in New York must have questions too. You can imagine that members of the council got quite a few phone calls from angry residents of the city.

As the blowback continues over Democrat Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to give illegal border crossers in city shelters pre-paid debit cards, ostensibly to use to buy food, members of the city council have asked for an investigation into the scheme.
Adams proposed his new policy early in February, and insisted the program that would allow illegals to feed themselves would save the city millions of dollars in often wasted food-service costs.
The mayor estimated the pre-paid cards would cost the city $53 million, and would allow migrants to spend $35 per day, or $1,000 a month, to buy food to prepare for themselves, instead of being handed pre-made meals supplied by the city.
One part of the program that has raised eyebrows, though, is the no-bid contract that Adams doled out to launch the program.
According to WLNY-TV, Councilmember Gale Brewer blasted the mayor for the contract award, saying, “I think you should bid it out to see who would do the best job at the best cost for taxpayers.”

“I don’t know exactly how it’s going to work. I do see from the release it will be for diapers and baby products and food, but you have to be careful that that’s what it’s actually going to be for,” Brewer noted.
For his part, Adams said the debit card company, Mobility Capital Finance, was attractive to him because the company was minority owned.

NEW YORK – NYC Mayor Eric Adams is clearing up reports on how much migrants will actually receive on their “immediate response cards” and how much it will cost the city.
Earlier this month, the city announced its partnership with Mobility Capital Finance to launch a pilot program that would give migrant families a reloadable prepaid credit card to buy food and supplies.
SNAP and WIC, federally funded health and nutrition programs, already use similar prepaid cards — but there’s lots of missing context regarding NYC migrant benefits.
The Post first reported that the program could cost the city more than $53 million.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams joined FOX 5 NY live on the 5 O’Clock News Tuesday to clear up questions about the program.
“First, we want to be really clear: each migrant will get about $13 a day, so it’s not automatically $1,000 as it has been reported,” Adams told FOX 5 NY.
Amid a massive influx of migrants to the city, many have associated the program with giving untraceable, unlimited, and unregulated accounts to foreigners.
“Lunatic Democrats handing out credit cards to foreigners while Americans are struggling,” reads one post on X, formerly Twitter, that had received approximately 7,900 likes and more than 3,800 shares as of Tuesday.
A Facebook post reads: “Want to bet that New York City’s illegal crisis is going to get worse? $53,000,000.00 in free credit cards ensure that it will. New York will fall very soon.”
