Since the onset of winter this year, a series of cold waves have swept across China. On December 16, China was hit by an extremely severe cold wave, with temperatures plunging in 80% of the country. Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China recorded a record-breaking low temperature of minus 48.4°C.
