Leading House Republicans soundly rejected the Senate’s bipartisan bill on the border and Ukraine funding Sunday night. The bill was negotiated in secret between Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) with support from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Joe Biden.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) posted strongly worded statements denouncing the bill, while freshman Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA), expressed his opinion of the bill in a more colorful way, “This bill is the worst screwing in the Senate since that Dem staffer filmed his porno on Klobuchar’s desk.”
Sen. Lankford to Chuck Schumer: “Thank you sir, may I have another?”
Speaker Johnson’s statement, “I’ve seen enough. This bill is even worse than we expected, and won’t come close to ending the border catastrophe the President has created. As the lead Democrat negotiator proclaimed: Under this legislation, “the border never closes.” If this bill reaches the House, it will be dead on arrival.”

Leader Scalise, “Let me be clear: The Senate Border Bill will NOT receive a vote in the House. Here’s what the people pushing this “deal” aren’t telling you: It accepts 5,000 illegal immigrants a day and gives automatic work permits to asylum recipients—a magnet for more illegal immigration.”

I’ve seen enough,” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) declared Sunday night.
Just hours after Senate negotiators unveiled their pro-migration border bill, Johnson pledged the bill would never move through the House.
“This bill is even worse than we expected, and won’t come close to ending the border catastrophe the President has created,” Johnson posted on X. “As the lead Democrat negotiator proclaimed: Under this legislation, ‘the border never closes.’”
Johnson referenced a statement from the lead Democrat negotiator, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), who correctly pointed out that “the border never closes” under the bipartisan deal.

Last night, the Senate released the draft border security bill. To call it a fraud would be to engage in understatement. It offers little in the way of resources to improve security while taking the bill away from the rule of law and placing it firmly in Joe Biden’s hands. Even if Biden were an ardent defender of the border, this new bill is designed to increase the flow of illegal aliens, not restrict it.
My colleague Bonchie posted on some of the flaws last night.
- Five thousand illegals per day, or 1.8 million per year, are allowed entry before an emergency can be declared.
- Work permits will be issued to illegals.
- The federal courts in DC have original and appellate authority, meaning federal courts in Texas can’t hear cases about the bill.
- The emergency can be ignored if the president decides it isn’t in our “national interests.”
- There are limits on the number of days an emergency can be kept in place regardless of the number of illegals.
