Republicans have warned the next terror attack on American soil will be linked to an illegal border crosser after a visit to the hotspot of the migrant crisis this week.
‘We have no idea how many terrorists have come in,’ Speaker Mike Johnson said on the bank of the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Texas, noting that 312 people from the terrorist watchlist had been caught at the border since Biden took office.
‘I am 100 percent certain that we are going to suffer another terror attack U.S. soil and you’re going to be able to trace it back to this,’ Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., a former FBI agent who spent his entire career in counterintelligence, told DailyMail.com.
Nearly 24,000 Chinese nationals crossed into the U.S. from the southern border in fiscal year 2023.
‘You can’t tell me of those 24,000 all truly just want to live the American dream. Even if it’s just 10% [sabotaging the U.S. for China] that’s 240 people last year, waiting to do damage. That scares me,’ said Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas.
The lawmakers insist the high risk for a terror attack is another reason why they will move forward impeaching Department of Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas – even as they try to hash out a major immigration deal with him.
A group of over 60 House Republicans, led by Speaker Johnson, watched as desperate migrants threw themselves at border agents to be let into the country in Eagle Pass, Texas this week shouting ‘help me!’
They left seeming more frustrated and discouraged about the possibility of a negotiated deal – and with a greater resolve to remove the Homeland Security secretary from office.
‘We’re waiting for them to make us an offer,’ House Homeland Security Chair Mark Green told DailyMail.com of the Senate-led border negotiations when asked whether impeaching the secretary could distract from the deal.
‘My job is to get rid of this guy, I mean he’s putting the American people at risk.’

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is considering trying to negotiate directly with the White House on border policy changes that have so far been confined to a bipartisan group of Senate negotiators.
A source familiar confirmed that Johnson said on a Thursday call with first-term GOP lawmakers that he was weighing talking to the White House directly on border matters, as Punchbowl News first reported Friday.
Such a move would mark a change in strategy for the Speaker, as talks drag on in the Senate over border policy changes, which GOP lawmakers have said is a condition of approving additional aid to Ukraine.
But for now, the talks remain confined to the Senate.
Even if Johnson wants to take up talks with the White House, it is not clear that channel would be open. The White House threw cold water on the idea of negotiating with Johnson on the border.
“There’ve been talks for weeks,” Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young told reporters Friday morning when asked about the possibility of dealmaking with Johnson. “Now, I know where the Speaker suite is. It’s right next to the Senate. So it’s a long trip down to the White House to do something that could be done right next door. The White House has been involved in those.”
“That is not serious,” Young added of Johnson’s potential move. “There [are] talks going on. I’m sure no one’s gonna tell the Speaker, if he wants to be involved in that, that he couldn’t be involved in that.”

During Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) derided the Biden administration for its lackluster handling of border security at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Johnson accused the Biden administration of rolling out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants by abandoning the policies of President Joe Biden’s predecessor, former President Donald Trump.
“The argument is that there’s only so much a president can do,” CNN host Jake Tapper said. “Even Donald Trump could not seal the border. Even when the remain-in-Mexico policy was in place in 2019, there was still a migrant crisis. There was still a crisis at the border. You might remember all those TV ads that Donald Trump ran in 2018 about the caravan heading into the United States. A lot of people say, this needs to be solved by Congress. You’re the guys that write the laws. You’re the ones in charge of asylum. And, yes, President Trump or President Biden could do X, Y, or Z, but it’s really up to Congress.”
