Facebook, Instagram, and Threads are all down

A massive Meta outage is locking users out of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads on Tuesday morning.

Facebook, Instagram, and Threads are all experiencing issues. The three Meta-owned platforms aren’t working for many users, with the widespread outage seeming to start around 10AM ET. Some users are experiencing issues logging in to their Meta Quest headsets, too.

Facebook is logging users out of their accounts, leaving them unable to get back in. Meanwhile, over on Instagram, some users, including several of us at The Verge, can’t refresh their feeds.

A similar Meta outage took place in 2021 when a configuration issue brought down access to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp for several hours.

This time around, Threads is included and also appears to be completely down. When opening the app on a mobile device, it displays an error message that says, “Sorry, something went wrong. Try again.” However, WhatsApp is working without an issue.

Reports on DownDetector rapidly spiked for all three platforms this morning, while global network trackers NetBlocks noted the issue is affecting multiple countries at once. Meta has yet to acknowledge the issue. The Verge reached out to Meta for an update but didn’t immediately hear back.

RELATED: Facebook and Instagram down: Users hit by ‘session expired’ bug blocking access

Facebook and Instagram are both down this afternoon with thousands unable to access their accounts.

Published March 5, 2024

If you are trying and failing to get access to your Facebook and Instagram account this afternoon you are not alone.

It appears the social media apps are both down for most users – and Facebook Messenger, Threads and WhatsApp are reported as not working. The gremlins appear to have started at around 3:00pm with the outage still ongoing and no word on when it will be fixed.

Users were greeted with a “session expired” or “unexpected error” message. This issue appears to be affecting users of the sites globally. Downdetector, which monitors outages across the globe, is showing over 160,000 reports of Facebook being down. Instagram stands at over 40,000 reports making this one of the biggest issues for Meta (which owns both of these platforms) in years.

It’s unclear what is causing the problems but many Facebook and Instagram users have dashed to rival social site, X (formerly Twitter). The issue was soon trending on Twitter with hundreds of users posting their frustration or asking what had happened.

One of the first users to post said: “Facebook is Down. Can’t access my account,” whilst another added: “Facebook Down/ Instagram Down everything in Meta down.”

Facebook Messenger runs as a separate app on most mobile devices. Users are also reporting that their Messenger app and function is also not working at the moment. People are being met with the same message that they have been logged out.

It’s very rare for Meta apps to have such big issues and hopefully, the tech team will be desperately trying to fix the glitch as soon as possible. The cause of the issue is currently unknown and we await more information on when access to accounts will be restored.

Facebook and Instagram’s parent company Meta have been contacted for comment.

Why do CO2 lag behind temperature?

71% of the earth is covered by ocean, water is a 1000 times denser than air and the mass of the oceans are 360 times that of the atmosphere, small temperature changes in the oceans doesn’t only modulate air temperature, but it also affect the CO2 level according to Henry’s Law.

The reason it is called “Law” is because it has been “proven”!

“.. scientific laws describe phenomena that the scientific community has found to be provably true ..”

That means, the graph proves CO2 do not control temperature, that again proves (Man Made) Global Warming, now called “Climate Change” due to lack of … Warming is – again – debunked!
