NEW YORK (AP) – FBI agents quietly seized phones and an iPad from New York City Mayor Eric Adams early this week as part of an investigation into political fundraising during his 2021 campaign, his attorney disclosed Friday.
The seizures happened as Adams was leaving a public event in Manhattan, according to a statement from the mayor´s attorney, Boyd Johnson.
On Monday night, the FBI approached the mayor after an event. The Mayor immediately complied with the FBI´s request and provided them with electronic devices,” Johnson said.
“The mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the investigation.”

The New York Times, came four days after federal agents searched the Brooklyn home of Adams´ top campaign fundraiser, Brianna Suggs. That search prompted the mayor to cancel a planned trip to meet with White House officials in Washington and instead return to New York.
In a statement on Friday, Adams, a former police captain, said he had “nothing to hide.”
“As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all members of my staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation – and I will continue to do exactly that,” he said.

FBI agents stopped Mayor Eric Adams on a New York City street and seized electronic devices from him amid a probe of whether his campaign accepted illegal donations from Turkey, according to a report Friday.
The stunning scene — which took place earlier this week, the New York Times said — marked the first time the investigation has directly touched on Adams, a Democrat who’s midway through his first term.
The agents reportedly asked the mayor’s bodyguards to step away, then climbed into Adams’ official SUV with him and seized at least two cellphones and an iPad pursuant to a court-authorized warrant.
It’s unclear if the agents mentioned the ongoing investigation into the possibility that illegal contributions were funneled into Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign as part of a conspiracy with the Turkish government, the Times said.
Adams’ devices were reportedly returned days later, apparently after their contents were copied by investigators.

Brianna Suggs — who graduated from Brooklyn College with a bachelor of science in biology in 2020 — has close ties to the mayor’s inner circle, including to Ingrid Lewis-Martin, the so-called Lioness of City Hall who acts as Adams’ chief adviser and gatekeeper.
One source even described her as Lewis-Martin’s political “goddaughter.”
Suggs has been touted as a key campaign consultant and fundraiser for Adams — but sources said the young operative’s lack of experience raised eyebrows during the 2021 mayoral race, with some attributing her apparently elevated status to her political connections.
“It was pretty clear she was there because of who she knew,” another source said, adding Suggs’ position was part of the “incestuous” Brooklyn political clubhouse.
“The guy was running for mayor, so you’d think he would have some marquee fundraiser,” the source added.
Suggs was brought on as an intern at Brooklyn Borough Hall in 2017 when Adams was borough president and Lewis-Martin was his deputy.
