WASHINGTON — Hardline Republican Jim Jordan picked up support for his campaign to lead the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday as he aimed to bulldoze opposition within his own party by applying pressure in a series of public votes.

Several of Jordan’s fellow Republicans said they would support his bid for House Speaker, whittling down his opposition from the 55 lawmakers who had voted against endorsing on Friday. It was unclear whether he would be able to unite his party enough to prevail in a floor vote expected on Tuesday.

“I feel real good about the momentum we have,” Jordan told reporters. “We’re going to elect a speaker tomorrow.”

The political civil war that has consumed House Republicans largely behind closed doors since former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s ouster on Oct. 3 has already used up two weeks that Congress could have spent funding federal agencies ahead of a Nov. 17 shutdown deadline and aiding allies Israel and Ukraine in their wars.

The show of dysfunction stands out for being driven by Republican infighting rather than Congress’ more customary partisan squabbles.

In a letter to Republicans, Jordan acknowledged those differences and promised to prioritize military and spending legislation. “The principles that unite us as Republicans are far greater than the disagreements that divide us,” he wrote.

RELATED: Report: How Donors Could Be Key in Getting Jordan Across the Finish Line

Published October 17, 2023

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio will likely face an uphill battle in his bid to become House speaker on Tuesday as there is still opposition from enough Republicans to tank his chances.

On Monday, he picked up key support from several Republicans who previously opposed him: GOP Reps. Mike Rogers of Alabama, Ann Wagner of Missouri, Ken Calvert of California, and Vern Buchanan of Florida, according to The Hill. Still, at least six Republicans plan to vote against Jordan, and he can only afford to lose four GOP votes to secure 217.

According to one report, Jordan could reach that threshold if donors force the hand of those who oppose him.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans will try to elect a firebrand Rep. Jim Jordan as the new House speaker, elevating a chief ally of Donald Trump to a center-seat of U.S. power and showing just how far the hard-right flank has moved into the GOP mainstream.

On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to start voting at noon in what could become a showdown for the gavel. At least a handful of holdout Republicans are refusing to give Jordan their votes, viewing the Ohio Republican as too extreme for the powerful position of House speaker, second in line to the presidency.

But with public pressure bearing down on lawmakers from Trump’s allies including Fox News’ Sean Hannity, it’s not clear how long the holdouts can last. Jordan swiftly flipped dozens of detractors in a matter of days, shoring up reluctant Republicans who have few options left two weeks after Kevin McCarthy’s ouster.

“The American people deserve to have their Congress and House of Representatives working, and you can’t have that happen until you get a speaker,” Jordan said after a late-night meeting Monday at the Capitol.

RELATED: Jordan builds momentum to Speakership but still faces opposition: Live coverage

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is gaining momentum as he tries to lock down support for the Speakership, but opposition remains.

Jordan scored key pickups on Monday when four Republicans who had previously publicly opposed him flipped their votes: House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (Ala.) along with Reps. Ann Wagner (Mo.), Ken Calvert (Calif.) and Vern Buchanan (Fla.).

But at least six Republicans say they plan to vote against the fast-talking, hard-line Ohio Republican — enough to keep him from winning the gavel if all members of the House vote.

At the same time, the crisis in Israel has not abated, and the U.S. is barreling toward its next shutdown deadline — all while the House closes in on two weeks without a Speaker.

Why do CO2 lag behind temperature?

71% of the earth is covered by ocean, water is a 1000 times denser than air and the mass of the oceans are 360 times that of the atmosphere, small temperature changes in the oceans doesn’t only modulate air temperature, but it also affect the CO2 level according to Henry’s Law.

The reason it is called “Law” is because it has been “proven”!

“.. scientific laws describe phenomena that the scientific community has found to be provably true ..”

That means, the graph proves CO2 do not control temperature, that again proves (Man Made) Global Warming, now called “Climate Change” due to lack of … Warming is – again – debunked!
