The White House is accusing House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) of “blatantly lying” about testimony from Hunter Biden’s lawyer Kevin Morris.
After Morris’s testimony this week, Comer suggested he was concerned about Hunter Biden’s “sugar brother’s” financial support. The Republican claimed Morris’ actions raised ethical concerns, pointing to the millions of dollars the lawyer loaned to the President’s son.
“Shortly after meeting Hunter Biden at a Joe Biden campaign event in 2019, Kevin Morris began paying Hunter Biden’s tax liability to insulate then-presidential candidate Joe Biden from political liability. Kevin Morris admitted he has ‘loaned’ the President’s son at least $5 million,” Comer said in a statement. “These ‘loans’ don’t have to be repaid until after the next presidential election, and the ‘loans’ may ultimately be forgiven.”
In response, the White House called the GOP’s investigation into Hunter Biden and his father’s corrupt business dealings “baseless” and “failing.”
“Yet again it appears @JamesComer is blatantly lying about closed-door testimony in the Republicans’ baseless, meandering, and failing so-called ‘impeachment inquiry’ of the President,” White House spokesperson Ian Sams wrote in a post on X. “This has happened over and over and over.”
Additionally, Morris’s attorney, Bryan Sullivan, also accused the Republican panel of not portraying Hunter Biden’s “sugar brother” fairly.

Former Wisconsin representative and Fox Business host Sean Duffy highlighted Friday a small detail in the Hunter Biden case that could complicate things for the president’s son.
Hunter agreed to sit for a closed-door deposition before Congress on Feb. 28 after initially defying their request.
Hunter’s friend and financial benefactor Kevin Morris told Congress on Thursday he loaned Hunter the money to “help my friend and client.” Morris admitted he loaned Hunter at least $5 million, according to a press release from House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer. The loans do not need to be repaid until after the presidential election and may ultimately be forgiven, Comer said.
Speaking on The Faulkner Focus, Duffy said the “loans” were really “gifts” disguised as loans to help Hunter avoid taxes, complicating the situation.
“So he admitted a $5 million in loans. It could be up to $7 million. Hunter Biden doesn’t have a job. Hunter Biden doesn’t have income. And this is the game that the Biden’s play. They’ll call it a loan when really it is a gift. And if you get a gift from someone to the tune of $5 or $7 million you have to pay taxes on that. If it’s a loan, you don’t have to pay taxes on it, which is why they call it the loan,” Duffy explained.
“Ahhhh,” Faulkner said.
“It’s a way to get around not having to pay taxes,” Duffy continued. “That’s the scheme. And by the way, the ‘sugar brother’ has made three trips to the White House, also the play that the Biden’s make, which is, ‘Give me money and then you get access.’ That’s what is happening with Morris here, Kevin Morris.”
“That’s critical what you just said,” Faulkner stated, pointing out Morris said he was “helping” Hunter, but that if it’s a gift rather than a loan, Hunter was supposed to pay taxes.
“They are splitting hairs. By the way, Hunter Biden has no income. The sugar brother, Kevin Morris, also bought artwork from Hunter Biden to the tune of $875,000. This is a really murky story,” Duffy said. “You don’t lend money to people that can’t pay it back. Rich people don’t lend $5 or $7 million to people that can’t pay it back. So it begs the question, ‘What are you getting in exchange for the cash that’s given?’”

Presidential son Hunter Biden, facing continued congressional procedures that could have ended with is being held in contempt of Congress, has apparently agreed to appear next month before two House committees to be deposed.
Biden will appear on Feb. 28 before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, chaired by James Comer, and the House Committee on the Judiciary, chaired by Jim Jordan.
The two committee chairs issued a brief “joint statement” that Comer shared in a post to X Thursday afternoon.
“Hunter Biden will appear before our committees for a deposition on February 28, 2024,” according to the statement. “His deposition will come after several interviews with Biden family members and associates.
“We look forward to Hunter Biden’s testimony,” the two Republicans added.
The post to X listed five of the “Biden family members and associates” scheduled to be interviewed by the committees, and noted that an interview with President Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden, was in the works but had not yet been scheduled.
