Iran‘s foreign minister declared on Wednesday that ‘time is over’ for Israel, as Joe Biden was set to arrive in Tel Aviv to try and calm a rapidly-spiraling situation, with anti-Israel protests flaring up across the region.
The foreign minister’s message echoes one posted by Iran’s embassy in Syria that tweeted ‘Time is Up’ in Hebrew.
It’s unclear what the messages referred to, but came after an air strike on a Gaza hospital on Tuesday killed at least 500 people, according to Palestinian authorities.
The attack enraged people around the world. Israel and Palestinians both blame each other for the atrocity.
Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed terrorist group based in Lebanon, called for ‘a day of unprecedented anger’ against Israel, while Libya’s foreign ministry accused the Jewish state of ‘war crimes and genocide.’
Demonstrators in Beirut briefly set the U.S. embassy on fire in anger at the killings, and in Jordan, dozens of protesters attempted to storm the Israeli embassy. Protests were also held outside the British and French embassies in Tehran.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s foreign minister, arrived in Saudi Arabia Tuesday after the hospital bombing – a remarkable show of unity between two former sworn enemies.
Iran’s embassy in Syria tweeted on Tuesday evening: ‘Time is up’ in Hebrew
Saudi Arabia and Iran in March agreed on a Chinese-mediated détente and have moved toward reopening diplomatic missions in each other’s countries: Amir-Abdollahian visited Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, in August.
On Tuesday, Amir-Abdollahian, in Saudi for a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, issued a stark threat to Israel, blaming them for the hospital bombing.
‘After the terrible crime of the Zionist regime in the bombing and massacre of more than a thousand innocent women and children in the hospital, the time has come for the global unity of humanity against this fake regime more hated than ISIS and its killing machine,’ he tweeted.

A top Iranian commander warned Israel on Tuesday it will face “another shockwave” of attacks by militant groups if the country doesn’t halt its relentless bombardment of Gaza.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards deputy commander-in-chief, Ali Fadavi, made the chilling threat after an attack on a refugee camp took out a top Hamas commander.
“The resistance front’s shocks against the Zionist regime will continue until this ‘cancerous tumor’ is eradicated from the world map,” Fadavi said, according to Iranian news agency Fars.
Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, blamed the US for Israel’s retaliatory strikes on the enclave — as he called the assault a “genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.”
“Our numerous intelligence reports show that the US is formulating the Zionist regime’s current policy and what is being done is governed by US policymaking. The US must be held responsible for this situation,” Khamenei said in a speech posted on X.
“No one can confront Muslims and the resistance forces if the Zionist regime’s crimes against Palestinians continue. The bombardment of Gaza must stop immediately,” Khamenei said as he addressed a group of students in Tehran.
