Russian women ask Putin’s defence minister to return their husbands from Ukraine
Russia is ready to strike French troops if they are sent to to Ukraine to help train Kyiv’s soldiers, the Kremlin has suggested.
Ukraine’s top commander Oleksandr Syrskyi said French trainers would come to Ukraine “soon” last week, which was downplayed by both Paris and Kyiv.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said: “No instructor involved in training the Ukrainian military has immunity. It doesn’t matter whether they’re French or not.”
In February, French president Emmanuel Macron said the situation in Ukraine was “dynamic” and nothing could be ruled out.
It comes as Britain is seeking to send 1,000 first-person view drones to Ukraine as part of an international support coalition.
The appeal, worth £300,000, calls for the procurement of up to 15 batches of 20 “first-person view racing quadcopter style drones”.

While touring Africa, Russia’s foreign minister also dismissed the Ukraine peace and security conference, which is due to take place in Switzerland in July.
Any French military instructors in Ukraine would be a “legitimate target” for Russian armed forces, Russia’s top diplomat said during a tour of Africa on Tuesday.
Sergey Lavrov made the remarks at a joint news conference with the Republic of Congo’s foreign minister, Jean Claude Gakosso.
French instructors were already in Ukrainian territory to train Kyiv’s troops, Lavrov added.

The presence of French military instructors in Ukraine would be deemed a “legitimate target” of attack by Russia’s Armed Forces, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on June 4.
“As for the French instructors, I think they are already on the Ukrainian territory,” Lavrov said during a press conference alongside Congo’s Foreign Minister Jean Claude Gakosso. “Regardless of their status, military officials or mercenaries represent a legitimate target for our armed forces.”
Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said on May 27 that France is planning instructors to Ukraine to train the military, although Ukraine’s Defense Minister later said that discussions with France and other Western allies were still ongoing.
While French President Emmanuel Macron has not officially confirmed that the country will send military instructors, Macron said that an announcement on support for Ukraine will be made at the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day this week.
