- Trump’s allies have begun attacking pop star Taylor Swift in recent weeks.
- If Trump decides to personally criticize her, he’s in for a world of trouble.
- Swift’s US adult fan base is larger than the 2020 presidential vote count and unafraid to “go low.”
If former President Donald Trump and his campaign choose to attack Taylor Swift, he’ll have to defeat a far scarier and more dangerous force than Joe Biden’s reelection campaign: her scorned fans.
After weeks of Republican media pundits and a former presidential candidate vilifying her, going as far as saying she’s a Defense Department psy-op, it seems all but certain Trump will jump into the fray soon as well after Rolling Stone reported one of his confidants predicted a “holy war” against the pop sensation.
Should he go after her, it may be the biggest mistake of his 2024 campaign thus far, needlessly injecting himself into negative discourse with little perceivable way of succeeding.
That is, of course, because Swift’s committed fan base is just as — if not more — supportive of her than the MAGA movement is of him.
Her following also appears to be even larger in the US than Trump’s.
A Morning Consult survey from March 2023 estimated that 53% of US adults consider themselves Swift fans, an astoundingly large support base.
To put that into perspective, the 2020 US Census found there are around 258.3 million adults in the country. If that and the aforementioned survey are correct, that means there are nearly 137 million voting-age Swift supporters situated across the US, or approximately 60% of the total number of votes cast in the 2020 presidential election for either Biden or Trump.

Conservative media personalities are raging over a new enemy and onetime Biden endorser whose power has never been more undeniable: Taylor Swift.
Why it matters: The teams behind the two 2024 presidential frontrunners are zeroing in on a pop mega-star with a feverish fan base that actually does heed her calls to go out and vote.
- Swift has not yet endorsed anyone in the 2024 presidential race.
- The New York Times reported Monday that Biden’s campaign is courting her for a 2020 repeat, even jokingly considering the president appear at an Eras tour stop.
Meanwhile, Rolling Stone reported that Trump allies are closely watching for Swift’s move.
Between the lines: Swift has countless young, passionate fans who not only are willing to spend big money to support her — but also are highly active online.
- Former President Trump and Biden will be vying for the youth vote as that bloc’s enthusiasm for either candidate is plummeting.
MAGA acolytes ranging from ex-presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to Trump lawyer Alina Habba to Fox News host Jeanine Pirro are publicly fuming over the singer, asserting she needs to “stay out of politics” or implying she’s not what America needs.
- Among the most extreme conspiracy theories surrounding Swift and her boyfriend, Super Bowl-bound Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, is that their relationship is a deep state psy-op orchestrated by the NFL and Democrats to work in President Biden’s favor.
- Kelce has already been loathed by conservatives for partnering with Pfizer for a pro-COVID vaccine campaign.

The dumbest thing the MAGA cult and its media enablers have done (this week, anyway) is to turn against Taylor Swift.
Most recently, they’re pushing a looney conspiracy that the AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens was rigged to make the Chiefs win as part of some Democratic propaganda plan in which Swift and her Chiefs’ boyfriend, Travis Kelce, will somehow use the Super Bowl to promote the campaign of President Joe Biden.
This follows other wackadoodle notions, like when a Fox News host suggested Swift could be “a front for a covert political agenda.”
This kind of venom is just … not smart.
