A group of Israeli women who serve as commanders in the armored corps of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) saved two communities near Gaza during the Hamas attack on October 7 — and their story has finally been told on Israeli television.
As Breitbart News recently noted during a visit to the agricultural community of Yated, near the Egyptian and Gaza borders:
Yated was spared the worst of the October 7 carnage, according to local farmer Shai Avraham, thanks in part to a vigilant female tank commander from a nearby base who decided to fire upon a group of Hamas terrorists who were lurking near the community. She killed most of them, and while a few persisted in their attack, others fled back to Gaza and did not return.
A few commenters on social media doubted whether such an event actually happened. It did, and Israel’s Channel 12 reported it:
Female officers in the IDF typically serve as instructors, or in logistical roles. However, a small but increasing number are being accepted into combat units, including infantry, armored corps, and aviation roles.

- Asraa Jabas was seriously disfigured after a gas cylinder exploded in attack
A Palestinian terrorist expected to be released in the hostage exchange controversially demanded Israel pay for her plastic surgery after injuring herself in an attack.
Asraa Jabas, 38, was seriously disfigured after a gas cylinder exploded during an attack in 2015 in the West Bank which also left a policeman badly hurt.
She was sentenced to eleven years but since being convicted has successfully applied twice for funding to have plastic surgery – sparking outrage.
The attack in the city of Ma’ale Adumim, 18 miles from Jerusalem, left the police officer involved with serious burns to his face.
As news spread that she was to be one of the prisoners released as part of the deal, several victims groups said they would file a petition to oppose her freedom.
Under Israeli law, when Palestinian inmates are freed as part of any deal their names are published on the Ministry of Justice website and anyone opposing the decision has 24 hours to file a claim.

When a group of young Israeli women were woken up at 6:30 a.m. on October 7, they had no idea they would be making history as the first female armored crews in Israel, and perhaps the world, to participate in active battle.
In an interview with Channel 12 this week, the combat soldiers spoke of thundering along main roads to get to some of the 20 southern Israeli communities that came under massive assault that morning, running down terrorists, and securing breaches on the border with the Gaza Strip.
One of the officers in the unit, identified as Hagar, told Channel 12: “[My commander] comes into our room at 6:30 a.m., wakes me up and tells us that there’s a terrorist infiltration. We didn’t really understand the enormity of the event.”
The soldiers are part of a company of all-women tank operators, which was made permanent in the Israel Defense Forces in 2022 after a two-year pilot program. The company, in the Caracal mixed-gender light infantry battalion, usually operates along the Egyptian border — not in wars or in fighting behind enemy lines.
